A Cornish bar has introduced a creative solution to ease the burden of beer delivery by installing a zip line to transport heavy kegs. The Lusty Glaze Beach Bar and Restaurant, located at the secluded Lusty Glaze Beach in Newquay, faced a unique challenge: the 133 steps leading down to the bar made it difficult for beer distributors to access the venue without spending a significant amount of time and effort lifting heavy kegs.

In response to this challenge, the beach bar has implemented a new pulley-operated zip line that runs above the cove. The zip line system circumvents the need for the back-breaking task of carrying kegs up and down the steps, significantly improving efficiency for the bar’s team.

Reducing the physical strain on staff

Before the installation of the zip line, staff members at Lusty Glaze Beach Bar would often spend entire days hauling beer kegs up and down the steep steps, using stretchers and relying on two people for each heavy keg. Events manager Robin Parris explained, “Everything used to go up and down by hand, including the kegs. The big ones, two people at a time, on a stretcher in the old days, but now things are a little bit quicker.”

This process was not only physically demanding but also time-consuming. Staff member Morgan Perkins shared how much more efficient the new system has made the job: “Normally carrying these kegs down would take all day to take this amount of kegs down, because it’s normally a two-person lift for these big ones. It makes it so much easier, we could get down about 20 kegs in about two hours.”
