Hollywood stars walked away with more than just trophies at the 2025 Golden Globes—they also received one of the most opulent goody bags in awards season history. Among the skincare products, wellness retreats, and luxury hotel stays, one fortunate nominee took home what is arguably one of the rarest wine collections ever included in a celebrity swag bag.

The centrepiece? A trio of Liber Pater wines—vintages 2015, 2018 and 2019—made by Bordeaux iconoclast Loïc Pasquet. The 2015 vintage alone is worth around £36,000, with only 500 bottles ever produced. The full trio, paired with a wine tasting and dinner experience in Bordeaux hosted by Liber Pater, is valued at approximately $272,000. Unsurprisingly, the package was reserved for a single recipient.

Liber Pater: polarising, rare, and rooted in history

Liber Pater is more than just a luxury wine—it’s a statement. Named after the Roman god of viticulture and freedom (a counterpart to Bacchus), the wine is a recreation of pre-phylloxera Bordeaux. Pasquet farms a tiny 2-hectare plot in Landiras, Graves, planted with rare and nearly extinct grape varieties including Lauzet, Prunelard, Petite Vidure (a pre-phylloxera form of Cabernet Sauvignon), Saint-Macaire, and Castets, among others.

These are grown using traditional 19th-century techniques—ultra-high-density planting (up to 30,000 vines per hectare), non-grafted franc de pied vines, and unconventional pruning and spacing methods. The result, Pasquet argues, is a time capsule in a bottle: “time travel in the glass.”

While fans of the project call it visionary, others question the astronomical price tag and unorthodox methods. As Simon Field MW noted, Pasquet’s practices directly conflict with AOC regulations, resulting in legal disputes with French authorities, including the INAO. Although he was initially found in violation of local rules in 2016, Pasquet later won a partial appeal in 2017. As a result, Liber Pater remains classified as Vin de France—a label far removed from Bordeaux’s prestigious appellations, but intentionally so.

Rare access, global intrigue

The Liber Pater wines have gained notoriety not just for their story, but also their scarcity. At one point, the 2007 vintage sold for $4,500 a bottle. But after Pasquet committed to using 100% ungrafted vines in the 2015 vintage, prices skyrocketed to over $33,000 per bottle. That year marked a turning point, not only in price but in Pasquet’s mission to bring 19th-century Bordeaux back to life.

It’s no surprise then that the Golden Globes gift bag also included an invitation to taste these controversial wines at their source. The private tasting and dinner in Bordeaux—available only to one guest—is valued at nearly $300,000, making it one of the most extravagant gifts ever associated with an awards event.

More luxury in the bag

Of course, not every celebrity went home empty-handed. All nominees received a bottle of The Hearach Single Malt Scotch Whisky from the Isle of Harris Distillery (worth $90), or Isle of Harris Gin (worth $150)—and in some cases, both. These were joined by a two-night whisky-themed stay at The Tasman, a five-star hotel in Hobart, Tasmania.

Also included in the goody bag was a nod to wine’s role beyond the glass: Beau Domaine, the luxury skincare range developed by Brad Pitt and the Perrin family (of Château de Beaucastel fame). Made using antioxidant-rich extracts from Syrah, Mourvèdre and Grenache grapes, the cream channels the anti-ageing power of resveratrol and vine-sourced polyphenols.

Golden Globes, golden bottles

While red carpets and awards dominate the headlines, the 2025 Golden Globes have also sparked discussion in wine circles for offering access to one of the most exclusive, rarest wine collections on the planet. For a lucky few in Hollywood, the celebration didn’t end with champagne flutes—it extended to a glass of Liber Pater, a wine that quite literally offers a taste of the past.
