Tatton Brewery, a family-run operation based near Tatton Park in Knutsford, Cheshire, will cease trading on 29 February after 14 years in business. The brewery cited soaring living costs, fuel prices, and raw material expenses as key reasons for its closure, stating that it was “no longer viable” to continue operating.

In a heartfelt message shared on social media, a spokesperson for the brewery acknowledged the challenges the business has faced in recent years. “With unprecedented increases in the cost of living, fuel prices, raw materials, and many other factors, coupled with Gregg wishing to take a step back from the business due to family responsibilities, it is no longer viable for us to carry on,” the statement read.

Founder to step back for family reasons

Tatton Brewery’s founder, Gregg Sawyer, will also be stepping away from the business to focus on family commitments. The statement described the closure as a difficult but necessary decision: “With a heavy heart we’re sad to announce that Tatton Brewery will cease trading on Thursday 29th February.”

The brewery, known for its traditional ales and strong local following, has long been a staple of the Cheshire beer scene. Despite the closure, the team expressed pride in what they’ve achieved over the years. “We’ve had a good run, with great times, great staff, great customers – and of course great beer,” they shared.

Final chance to enjoy Tatton beers

In the lead-up to the closure, the brewery will continue fulfilling orders and offering stock through its webshop. Deliveries will go out from 26 to 29 February, and customers can collect purchases directly from the brewery until it officially shuts its doors.

Supporters are being encouraged to enjoy one last pint while they still can. “Get out there and get your last pints of Tatton Beer, raise a glass, and remember us fondly,” the message concluded.

Reflecting broader industry pressures

Tatton Brewery’s closure is part of a wider trend of small breweries struggling to stay afloat amid economic headwinds. Rising production costs, inflation, and shifting consumer habits have placed pressure on independent brewers across the UK.

While Tatton’s team is saddened to be joining this growing list, they leave behind a legacy of quality and community connection. For fans of their beers, the coming days offer a final opportunity to raise a glass in tribute to one of Cheshire’s most beloved craft breweries.
